about

Classical India meets Ethno Jazz

This month we are proud to present the touching document of a memorable evening. It was recorded in the „Import/Export“ - a club located in a former Turkish supermarket in the heart of Munich, a place we missv ery much. It used to be a hot spot for musicians, artists, dreamers, partyfreaks and nightowls before it fell prey to caterpillars and real estate speculators.

On stage: Christian Burchard´s legendary and ever changing krautrock-formation „Embryo“ and two off-springs of an ancient indian musician dynasty: Deobrat Mishra (sitar) and his nephew Prashant (tablas). What we witness is an intense musical conversation between individuals, each of them masters of their art.

Virtuosity is undoubtedly part of the game, but not the ruling motif. It is beautiful to literally hear the instrumentalists listening to each other, answering each other, carefully leaving room for the sound to unfold. A peacefull but energetic sound deeply enters the soul, effortlessly, as all music that originates from classical indian Ragas - music that was invented to open and heal the spirit.
